Mark historic Ellicott City Maryland’s Sestercentennial year for generations to come. This full-color, beautifully etched, 2.75″ square, brass keepsake of the town’s 250th anniversary logo comes with a cord attached for hanging and individually packaged in a custom box that is perfect for giving.
The EC250 logo features four iconic elements inherent to Ellicott City and its 250 year history. The grey rocks at the bottom represent Patapsco Valley’s GRANITE bedrock that surrounds the town. Many of the early buildings, built with stone from nearby quarries, still stand today. The rippling blue water above the rocks honors the PATAPSO RIVER a source of life for the early indigenous peoples who roamed the valley and a source of power for the Ellicotts’ mills. On the left a single piece of yellow WHEAT pays homage to the agricultural crop championed by the Ellicott family upon which they built their flouring industry as well as the town’s early economy. Lastly, the black RAILROAD tracks in the center speak to the transformation of Ellicott City from an early milling town that took place when the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, the first common carrier in the United States, laid its first thirteen mile of track from Baltimore to Ellicott Mills.
Our thanks goes to insight180 brand consulting & design for their generous in-kind assistance in bringing our vision for this logo to life.
