Babe Ruth Museum Comes to Town!
October 15 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
The Babe Ruth Museum comes to Ellicott City just in time for the 2022 World Series to celebrate the Babe’s wedding anniversary in the town where it happened! Learn more about the man, the myth, and Baltimore’s legendary Babe Ruth in this informative talk “The Other Babe Ruth–Husband and Father.”
ABOUT Babe’s visit to town: On Oct. 17, 1914, George Herman Ruth and his bride-to-be Helen Woodford took the train to Ellicott City and proceeded up the hill to St. Paul’s Catholic Church where they were married. He was 19 and she was 17. They had met just months before. They chose Ellicott City because it was one of Maryland’s two towns where they could skip the State’s three-day waiting period. A copy of the marriage certificate is on display at Saint Paul’s. Unfortunately the marriage ended in separation in 1923.
