EC250, Inc. Board of Directors marked the beginning of the commemoration of Ellicott City’s 250th anniversary year in a virtual live webinar on Saturday, January 22, 2022 from the town’s Welcome Center on Main Street.
Speakers included Howard County Executive Dr. Calvin Ball, Maryland Delegate Courtney Watson and Howard County Council District 1 representative Liz Walsh. Officials proclamations were presented by each marking the town’s 250th anniversary.
Artist Wiley Purkey provided insight into his “A Brush With History” solo exhibition that opened in the old Ellicott Theater on Main Street immediately following the launch.
Special sneak peek highlights of the upcoming year included:
- The opening of Howard County Historical Society‘s “Mill Town to City” exhibit hosted by Visit Howard County at the Main Street Welcome Center
- Performances of the songs “Patapsco” and “Sing Me a Memory” from “On National Road,” an original musical set to premiere at Howard Community College’s Horowitz Performing & Visual Arts Center in December 2022.
- A reading from Howard County Poetry and Literature Society’s “See through Poetry,” a curated collection of poems that speak to the town’s history, commerce and people.
- Appearances by notable historical character reenactors Benjamin Banneker, along with George Ellicott and his daughter Martha Ellicott Tyson.
